Senior Xplan Architect (Xplan Technical Architect)
Own the end-to-end Xplan platform architecture for a financial advice business undergoing transformation. Iress employment history is mandatory.
About the Role
This role is the internal Xplan authority for the business. It owns platform architecture end to end — workflows, calculations, wizard configuration, automation, data structures, integrations and reporting. It is not an administrator role. The mandate is to transform, optimise and future-proof the firm's entire advice technology ecosystem at a level of depth normally found only inside Iress itself.
About the Engagement
Xplan sits at the centre of the advice business and most firms never employ anyone who understands it past administrator level. This role closes that gap permanently. It brings Iress-grade platform knowledge in house, removing dependence on Iress support tickets and third-party consultants for anything beyond routine configuration. The successful candidate redesigns the architecture, builds the automation the platform already supports, and becomes the standing authority advisers and operations staff turn to.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and redesign the current Xplan implementation end to end
- Develop optimal practice architecture across entity structures, data dictionaries and custom fields
- Build scalable adviser workflows that hold up as the business grows
- Map existing advice processes against what Xplan actually supports and automate using wizards, rules, events and triggers
- Become the recognised internal Xplan authority and train advisers and operations staff on redesigned processes
- Integrate AI into advice workflows where it genuinely improves adviser productivity
- Drive best-practice utilisation of Xplan's full feature set
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years employed directly by Iress working specifically on Xplan (10+ years strongly preferred)
- Direct involvement in Xplan product development, implementation, consulting, training, support, architecture or enterprise client delivery
- Expert knowledge across the entire Xplan ecosystem — not a single module
- Able to configure, troubleshoot, redesign and optimise any Xplan process without vendor assistance
- Experience working with large financial planning groups and dealer groups
- This is a mandatory bar. A candidate without direct Iress employment history does not meet the requirement.
Highly Desirable
- Former Iress Product Manager, Solution Consultant, Senior Business Consultant or Implementation Specialist
- Former Iress Enterprise Consultant, Technical Consultant or Professional Services Consultant
- Experience supporting AFSLs with more than 50 advisers
- Exposure to AI-enabled advice processes
- Experience integrating Xplan with Microsoft 365, SharePoint, Power BI, Azure and API-based data environments
Technical Scope
Expert-level knowledge required across: Core Xplan (Client Focus, Adviser Tools, Client Portal, Workflows, Reviews, Service Packages, Fact Finds, Data Feeds); Advice Production (SOA Wizard, ROA Wizard, Advice Templates, Word Merge, Dynamic Content, Compliance Templates); Modelling (WealthSolver, Risk Researcher, Retirement/Cash Flow/Investment Modelling); Xtools+; Reporting (Report Builder, Advanced Reporting, Dashboards); Database Management (Entity Structures, Data Dictionaries, Custom Fields, Data Migration, Bulk Updates); Workflow Design and Automation; and Integrations (Microsoft 365, Power BI, Azure, CRM, APIs, data warehouse).
Engagement Terms

- Designed to be filled alongside an Xplan Advice Process and Implementation Specialist.
- Primary sourcing geographies: Australia, South Africa, United Kingdom, New Zealand and Singapore.
